How to compare in 30 seconds

Line the plans up on the rows that decide claims, not on price. First, the coverage amount (at least $100,000 for a Super Visa). Second, whether stable pre-existing conditions are covered and the stability period fits the visitor's medical history. Third, the deductible you'd pay on each claim. Then check waiting periods if the visitor has already arrived, side trips, refund fees and monthly payment costs. When two plans match on all of these, choose the lower premium.

What each row in the comparison means

The comparison shows these details for every plan you selected. Here is what to look for in each.

  1. PremiumThe total price for the dates entered. Compare it only after the rows below match what the visitor needs.
  2. Coverage amountThe most the plan pays per person. A Super Visa needs at least $100,000; older visitors often choose $150,000 or more.
  3. DeductibleWhat you pay first on each claim. A higher deductible lowers the premium but adds to every claim.
  4. Stable pre-existing conditionsWhether known conditions are covered at all, and the stability period required (often 90, 120 or 180 days, depending on age).
  5. Waiting periodIf bought after arrival, sickness in the first 48 hours to 7 days or more is usually not covered. Injuries are generally covered right away.
  6. Side tripsWhether short trips outside Canada, such as to the US, are covered, and the conditions that apply.
  7. RefundsWhat you get back if the visitor leaves early or the visa is refused, and the administration fee.
  8. Monthly paymentsWhether you can pay monthly, the setup fee, and whether IRCC will accept it for a Super Visa (a deposit is required).

True cost tool: which plan costs least if the visitor needs care?

Copy up to three plans from your comparison. The tool adds the premium to what you'd still pay on a claim, so a cheap plan with a high deductible or no pre-existing cover is shown for what it really costs.

Example values are filled in. Replace them with the premiums and details from your comparison.

Five red flags in a comparison

If you spot one of these, check before you buy.

"Pre-existing: not covered"

On the cheapest plan, while the visitor takes medicine for blood pressure, diabetes or the heart.

A stability period you can't meet

The plan needs 180 days stable, but a dose changed 100 days before the start date.

A deductible you can't pay

A $2,500 or higher deductible saves premium but is paid on each claim, by you.

Start date after arrival

Coverage that begins after the visitor lands brings a sickness waiting period.

Under $100,000 for a Super Visa

IRCC won't accept it. The plan must also run 365 days from entry.

Comparing visitor insurance quotes: FAQ

How do I compare visitor insurance quotes side by side?

Get quotes on the visitor insurance quote page, tick the plans you want, and select Compare. This page then shows the chosen plans next to each other.

If you arrived here directly, nothing is selected yet. Get visitor insurance quotes first, then come back through the Compare button.

Is the cheapest visitor insurance quote the best?

Only if it covers what the visitor is most likely to claim for. The cheapest plans often exclude pre-existing conditions or carry a deductible.

Use the true cost tool to see what each plan would cost you if the visitor actually needs care.

Why do two quotes for the same visitor differ so much?

Insurers price age bands, coverage amounts, deductibles and pre-existing condition cover differently, so the same visitor can see large gaps between plans.

Differences in the stability period and in how "stable" is defined matter more than the headline price for visitors with health conditions.

Is the price the same as buying directly from the insurer?

Yes. Visitor insurance premiums are set by the insurer, and buying through a licensed broker such as Pankaj doesn't add a fee.

A broker can compare several insurers at once and help with claims and refunds later. See broker vs buying direct.

Can I compare Super Visa insurance quotes the same way?

Yes, as long as each plan offers at least $100,000 of coverage for 365 days from entry.

Start from the Super Visa insurance page, where the quote form applies the Super Visa minimums.

How do I buy a plan after comparing?

Use the buy button on the plan you choose, or contact Pankaj to complete the application with you.

Before paying, check that the names, dates of birth, start date and medical answers are correct; a wrong answer can void coverage.

Do I have to answer medical questions?

For plans that cover stable pre-existing conditions, and at older ages, yes. The answers decide which plans the visitor qualifies for.

Answer for the full stability period before the start date. If you're unsure about a medicine change, ask Pankaj before you buy.
