JF Visitor to Canada insurance (JF-VTC) pays for emergency care when a sudden sickness or injury happens in Canada. Here's what it covers, who can buy it, how the 120-day stable pre-existing option works, waiting periods, deductibles, monthly payments, refunds and how to claim, with tools to check eligibility and estimate payments.
The short answer
JF Visitor to Canada insurance is an emergency medical plan underwritten by Old Republic Insurance Company of Canada, administered by JF Insurance Agency Group Inc., with 24/7 assistance and claims by Ontime Care. It covers visitors, Super Visa holders, workers, immigrants and uninsured Canadian residents from 15 days old, for up to 365 days, up to the sum insured you choose. Stable pre-existing conditions are covered only if you buy the stable-condition option and the condition was stable for 120 days. The $100,000 option adds $50,000 extra for injuries, and Super Visa policies ($100,000+, 365 days) can be paid monthly: two months plus an $80 fee upfront, then ten payments. Pregnancy is not covered.

Pre-existing conditions, waiting periods and deductibles
These three rules decide most claims, so check them before you buy.
| Age | Sickness waiting period if bought after arrival | Deductible |
|---|---|---|
| 85 and under | 48 hours if bought within 30 days of arrival; 7 days if bought later | $0, or $100 / $1,000 / $3,000 if chosen; optional disappearing deductible |
| 86 and over | 15 days | $500 |
120 days of stability
Pre-existing conditions are covered only if you pay for the stable-condition option when you buy. In the 120 days before the effective date there must be no new, more frequent or more severe symptoms, no undiagnosed symptoms, no hospitalization or specialist referral, and no new treatment, medication or dosage change. A doctor-approved reduction in medication because health improved doesn't count as a change.
How it works
With this option, a $2,500 deductible applies only to sickness claims of $2,500 or less, so small sickness claims are not paid. If a sickness claim is over $2,500, the deductible disappears and expenses are paid from the first dollar. Injury claims are not affected. Try it in the claim calculator.

How JF Visitor to Canada compares
Where it stands out: monthly payments for Super Visa policies, an extra $50,000 for injuries on the $100,000 option, no maximum age in the wording, a 48-hour waiting period even when bought up to 30 days after arrival, side trips outside Canada, acupuncture cover and a family rate.
Where to look closely: pre-existing conditions need the paid stable-condition option and 120 days of stability; pregnancy is excluded; ages 86+ have a $500 deductible and a 15-day waiting period; the disappearing deductible means small sickness claims aren't paid; and not calling Ontime Care cuts reimbursement to 70%.
Main exclusions: unstable or uncovered pre-existing conditions, sickness during the waiting period, planned or routine care, chronic-condition care, pregnancy and childbirth, care in the country of origin, substance misuse and self-inflicted injury, war and terrorism, and high-risk sports. The policy wording has the full list.

Is there an age limit?
Travellers must be at least 15 days old on the purchase date. The policy wording sets no maximum age.
Travellers aged 86 and over have a $500 deductible and a 15-day sickness waiting period if they buy after arriving. For family coverage, both adults must be 60 or under.
Does JF Visitor to Canada insurance cover pre-existing conditions?
Only if you buy the stable pre-existing condition option, and only for conditions stable for 120 days before the effective date.
Stable means no new, more frequent or more severe symptoms, no undiagnosed symptoms, no hospitalization or specialist referral, and no treatment, medication or dosage change. A doctor-approved reduction in medication because health improved is not a change. Check with the eligibility checker.
Is there a waiting period?
Only if you buy after arriving in Canada. Ages 85 and under: 48 hours if bought within 30 days of arrival, or 7 days after that. Ages 86 and over: 15 days.
Sickness that starts during the waiting period is not covered; injuries are. It may be waived for uninterrupted replacement coverage with written approval.

A disappearing-deductible option applies a $2,500 deductible only to sickness claims of $2,500 or less; larger sickness claims are paid from the first dollar. Try the claim calculator.
Am I covered on trips outside Canada?
Yes, on temporary trips to countries other than your country of origin, as long as at least 51% of the covered trip is spent in Canada.
Coverage stops while you are in your country of origin and resumes when you return to Canada; the premium for that time is not refunded.
Does JF Visitor to Canada insurance cover pregnancy?
No. Pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth and related complications are excluded.
Families expecting a baby should compare plans that include a maternity benefit in the live quote form.
Can I get a refund?
Yes: a full refund before the effective date, and a refund of unused premium if the traveller returns home early or gets provincial coverage, less a $40 fee, if there were no claims.
On monthly plans the $80 fee is non-refundable, the first two months become non-refundable once coverage starts, and only unused full months are refunded. Super Visa refusals before the effective date get a full refund with proof. Send requests in writing within 90 days after expiry. Use the refund estimator.
How do I make a claim?
Call Ontime Care before treatment, or as soon as medically possible: 1-866-209-5804 from Canada and the U.S., or collect at +1-905-707-9555.
If Ontime Care is not notified, reimbursement is limited to 70% of eligible expenses, up to $150,000. Give written notice within 30 days and proof within 90 days; claims can be submitted online at eclaim.jfgroup.ca. Benefits are paid within 60 days of complete proof.
Is there a family plan?
Yes. A family policy covers you, your spouse and your children, if both adults are 60 or under; the premium is two times that of the eldest adult.
All family members must have the same coverage dates, live at the same Canadian address and be named on the policy. Children are covered from 15 days old and under 21, or any age if dependent because of a permanent disability.
