How to get a visitors insurance quote
Five quick steps from the form above to a policy in your inbox.
- Choose the policy typeSingle, couple, or family with dependent children.
- Enter age and datesDate of birth (or age) and the first and last day of the visit.
- Pick the coverage$100,000 or more is common; older visitors often choose more.
- Pre-existing conditionsChoose "Yes" to see plans that cover stable conditions.
- Compare and buyChange the deductible, open plan details, then buy online or call.
What you need before you start
- The visitor's date of birth (or exact age)
- Arrival date in Canada, or the date coverage should start
- Expected departure date; you can usually extend later
- The coverage amount: for example $50,000, $100,000 or $150,000
- Any medical conditions, medication changes or recent treatment
Already in Canada? Most insurers apply a short waiting period for sickness when you buy after arrival, so buy before the visitor travels when you can.
Reading your quote results
- Price: the premium for the dates, ages and coverage you entered.
- Deductible: a higher deductible lowers the price; you pay that amount of each claim.
- Pre-existing conditions: plans covering stable conditions cost more, and each insurer defines "stable" differently.
- Plan details: check hospital, doctor and prescription limits, side trips and refund rules, not just the price.
- Buy online: you apply on the insurer's secure page; the policy is issued by that insurer.
Tips for the right price
Small choices change the premium more than most people expect.
Parents staying a year or more? A visitor policy for a few months won't meet IRCC's Super Visa rules.
Super Visa quotesVisitors insurance quote: common questions
Quick answers before you run the numbers.
Do I need to give my email or phone number to see prices?
No. Enter the visitor's age or date of birth, travel dates, coverage and whether to cover pre-existing conditions, and the prices appear right away. You only give personal details when you choose a plan and apply.
Can I buy visitors insurance for my parents or a relative?
Yes. Anyone in Canada can get a quote and buy a Visitors to Canada policy for a visiting parent, relative or friend, before or after they arrive.
Is a quote a guarantee of coverage?
No. A quote shows prices for the details you entered. Coverage depends on the insurer's application, medical questions and policy wording, so answer every question accurately.
Should I choose single, couple or family coverage?
Single covers one visitor. A couple policy covers two people travelling together, and a family policy covers parents with dependent children. Compare both a couple policy and two single policies; the cheaper option depends on ages and the insurer.
Can I change the dates after buying?
Usually yes, before the policy starts, and many insurers allow extensions before it ends. Some charge a fee, and rules differ after a claim, so ask Pankaj or check the plan details.
