Standard or Enhanced, Plan 1 or Plan 2, coverage amount and deductible: what each choice means, and how to complete the online application.

The short answer

2 Visit Canada sells visitor and Super Visa insurance online for ages 15 days to under 90. You make four choices: Standard or Enhanced (Enhanced has higher limits, such as a semi-private room and $1,000 per prescription); Plan 1 or Plan 2 (Plan 2 covers pre-existing conditions stable for 90 days to age 69 or 180 days at 70–84, with all "No" answers on the medical declaration at 70+); a coverage amount from $25,000 to $1,000,000 ($100,000+ for a Super Visa); and a deductible from $0 to $3,000. Bought after arrival, sickness has a 48-hour wait (within 30 days) or 8-day wait (later).

Mistakes to avoid on the application

Choosing "No" to pre-existing cover by habit

Plan 1 is cheaper, but a visitor on regular medicine then has no cover for that condition.

Guessing the declaration

At 70–84, one "Yes" on the medical declaration removes all pre-existing cover. Check dates in the medical records.

Wrong dates for a Super Visa

Cover must run 365 days from entry. If the travel date moves, change the effective date before it starts.

"Already in Canada" answered wrong

If the visitor has arrived, say so; it sets the waiting period. A wrong answer can affect a claim.

Too high a deductible

$3,000 per claim is a lot for an older visitor. The saving rarely covers two claims.

One applicant per couple

Up to six people can go on one application, but each answers for their own health and age.

2 Visit Canada insurance: FAQ

What is 2 Visit Canada insurance?

An emergency medical plan for visitors to Canada, Super Visa applicants, workers, students and new immigrants without provincial coverage, sold online through a secure application with claims and assistance by MSH Assistance.

It comes as Standard or Enhanced, each with Plan 1 (no pre-existing cover) or Plan 2 (stable pre-existing conditions). Full benefits are in our 2 Visit Canada plan details and claims guide.

What is the difference between Plan 1 and Plan 2?

Plan 1 excludes any condition that existed before the effective date. Plan 2 covers pre-existing conditions that were stable for 90 days (to age 69) or 180 days (age 70 to 84).

At 70 to 84, Plan 2 also needs "No" answers to every question on the medical declaration; one "Yes" means no pre-existing condition is covered. Plan 2 is not offered for pre-existing conditions at 85 or older.

Does 2 Visit Canada meet Super Visa requirements?

Yes, when you choose at least $100,000 of coverage for 365 days from the visitor's entry. The application asks whether the visitors are travelling on a Super Visa.

Send IRCC the confirmation of insurance issued after payment. A quote isn't accepted.

What coverage amounts and deductibles are available?

Coverage of $25,000, $50,000, $100,000, $150,000, $500,000 or $1,000,000, and deductibles of $0, $100, $250, $500, $1,000 or $3,000.

Higher deductibles lower the premium but are paid per claim. Visitors with health conditions usually do better with a low deductible.

What ages can 2 Visit Canada cover?

From 15 days old to under 90.

Stable pre-existing condition cover (Plan 2) is available to age 84.

Is there a waiting period if the visitor is already in Canada?

Yes: 48 hours for sickness if bought within 30 days of arrival, and 8 days if bought later. Accidental injuries generally aren't subject to the waiting period.

Buying before departure avoids the waiting period. A continuous renewal without a gap may also waive it.

Can I pay 2 Visit Canada Super Visa insurance monthly?

Yes. 2 Visit Canada offers a monthly payment plan with a $120 setup fee, the same terms as Secure Travel (RIMI).

The setup fee is refunded if the Super Visa is refused and the refusal letter reaches the insurer before the effective date; it isn't refunded once the visa is issued. Use the monthly payment calculator to see the first charge and the monthly amounts.

Can I buy 2 Visit Canada insurance online?

Yes. The Buy 2 Visit Canada online button opens the insurer's secure application with Pankaj Bhatia as your advisor.

You get an instant quote as you choose the options, then complete the application and pay online.

How do I make a claim?

Call MSH Assistance before treatment whenever possible: 1-800-203-8508 (Canada and US) or collect +1-416-646-3107.

Then send the claim form with itemized bills and receipts. See the claims section of our full guide.
