  • No listed home oxygen, serious cancer, dialysis, transplant or congestive-heart-failure disqualification

Pre-existing conditions and medical history

  • Applicants age 59 or younger require 90 days of stability.
  • Applicants age 60–69 require 120 days of stability.
  • Applicants age 70–85 require 180 days of stability.
  • Applicants age 86 or older require 365 days of stability.
  • Optional Unstable Pre-existing Medical Condition coverage may be available below age 80.
Medical-history reminder: A new symptom, diagnosis, medication change, treatment change, hospitalization, referral or pending investigation can affect eligibility or stability.

Medical questionnaire and application guidance

Can an unstable condition be insured?

An optional Unstable Pre-existing Medical Condition benefit may be available to eligible applicants under age 80, subject to underwriting and policy conditions.

Are high-risk sports covered?

Specified sports and activities require the optional Sports and Activities coverage.

Who needs the medical questionnaire?

Applicants age 60 or older may be required to complete it; inaccurate rate-qualification answers can result in an additional CAD $15,000 deductible.

Waiting period and stability guidance

  • A 48-hour sickness waiting period applies when purchased within 60 days after arrival in Canada.
  • A seven-day sickness waiting period applies when purchased 61 days or more after arrival.
  • No waiting period generally applies when purchased before arrival.
  • A sickness beginning or producing symptoms during the waiting period is excluded.

Claims and emergency assistance

  • Call immediately for hospitalization or major emergency treatment.
  • Open the claim online through TuGo claims.
  • Provide itemized receipts, medical certificates and unused travel documents.
  • Submit required proof within one year of the loss.
Important: Prior approval is required for specified transportation and medical services.

Refunds and administration fees

  • A full refund may be available within 10 days of application when no travel has occurred and the policy has not expired.
  • A partial refund may be considered after 10 days when requested within 90 days after policy expiry.
  • A CAD $250 Super Visa cancellation fee may apply when no travel occurred and the visa was not denied.
  • A full Super Visa denial refund may be available before the effective date with proof.
  • No refund is available when a claim has been or will be submitted.
