RBC Visitors to Canada plans and the Super Visa

RBC sells three visitor medical plans, for single trips up to 365 days, with no medical questions asked.

Source: RBC Insurance Visitors to Canada page, October 2026. All plans include travel accident benefits of up to $25,000.

A Super Visa needs private health insurance from a Canadian insurer (or an approved foreign insurer), with at least $100,000 of emergency coverage for health care, hospitalization and repatriation, valid for at least one year from each entry. A quote is not accepted as proof; a policy paid in full, or in instalments with a deposit, is.

RBC Plan III's limit is high enough, but it stops at age 69, so it can't cover most parents over 70. Its page doesn't describe pre-existing condition cover, so read the policy before relying on it.

Pankaj compares visitor and Super Visa plans from 15 insurers, including TuGo, Manulife, Allianz, Destination Canada, 21st Century and GMS, with plans for parents well past 70 and options for stable pre-existing conditions.

RBC Insurance Canada: frequently asked questions

What is RBC Insurance?

RBC Insurance is the insurance brand of the Royal Bank of Canada group. It sells life, critical illness, disability, travel and visitors to Canada insurance, plus home and auto in some markets.

Policies are issued by the RBC insurance company named in your contract, for example RBC Life Insurance Company for life and health products.

What term lengths does RBC offer?

Any length from 10 to 40 years, for ages 18 to 70, from $50,000 to $25,000,000.

For terms of 16 to 40 years, the maximum issue age is 85 minus the term, so a 25-year term is available to age 60. Premiums are guaranteed for the term, then renew yearly up to age 100.

How much does RBC term life insurance cost?

It depends on your age, health, smoking, amount and term. RBC's own examples run from $9.72 a month (woman, 28, $50,000, 15 years) to $67.25 a month (woman, 44, $750,000, 20 years).

RBC also advertises rates as low as $12.22 a month for $100,000 of Term 10 for a 37-year-old non-smoking man. Compare a real quote with other insurers, including the renewal price.

Can I convert RBC term insurance to permanent coverage?

Yes. RBC term can be converted to a permanent or universal life policy, such as RBC Growth Insurance, before age 71, with no health questions or medical exam.

Shorter terms can also be exchanged for a longer term without new evidence. RBC's page states two different deadlines for this (the 5th and the 8th policy anniversary), so confirm the date in your contract.

Does RBC offer whole life insurance?

Yes. RBC Growth Insurance and RBC Growth Insurance Plus are participating whole life plans for ages 0 to 80, paid for life, over 20 years or over 10 years.

The dividend scale interest rate is 6.30% for April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027. Dividends are not guaranteed.

What does RBC critical illness insurance cover?

RBC Critical Illness Insurance covers 26 critical illnesses, with a lump sum from $25,000 to $3,000,000.

An early assistance benefit pays 20% of the amount, up to $50,000, for 8 conditions without reducing the main benefit. Plans are Term 10, 15 or 20 (renewable to 75), Term 75 and Term 100.

Is RBC Visitors to Canada insurance good enough for a Super Visa?

Only Plan III could meet the coverage amount. A Super Visa needs at least $100,000 of emergency medical coverage, and RBC Plans I ($25,000) and II ($50,000) fall short.

Plan III offers $150,000 but only to age 69. The policy must also be valid for at least one year from entry and meet every other IRCC condition. Compare Super Visa insurance from 15 insurers.

Is RBC Insurance always the cheapest?

No. No insurer is cheapest for every person and every type of policy.

Pricing depends on your age, health, the product and each insurer's underwriting. Compare equal coverage, not just the first premium.

Can I buy an RBC policy through Pankaj Bhatia?

No. Pankaj does not sell RBC products. This page is an independent guide.

For an RBC policy, use RBC Insurance directly. Pankaj can compare similar coverage from the insurers he represents so you can see both side by side.

Is RBC Insurance the same as RBC the bank?

They are part of the same group, but your policy is issued by an RBC insurance company, not by the bank.

The contract names the insurer responsible for your coverage.
