MSH International Super Visa insurance
MSH administers the Discover Canada plan and answers the emergency line for Secure Travel (RIMI) and 2 Visit Canada. Here's who MSH is, how its three Super Visa plans compare, and how to claim.
The short answer
MSH International is a Toronto-based international health insurance administrator, part of the French Diot-Siaci group and founded in 1974. For Super Visa families it matters in two ways: it administers MSH Discover Canada (ages 15 days to 89, up to $1,000,000, underwritten by Lloyd's), and its Intrepid 24/7 assistance team handles emergencies and claims for Secure Travel (RIMI) and 2 Visit Canada. Whichever of the three you buy, the number to call in an emergency is 1-800-203-8508.
Who is MSH International?
- 1974: founded in France as a specialist in international health insurance for people living and working abroad.
- Diot-Siaci group: MSH is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Paris-based broker group (formerly Siaci Saint Honoré).
- 2017: merged with Ingle International's Imagine Financial and its Intrepid 24/7 travel assistance team. Ingle had served international travellers since 1946.
- Americas head office in Toronto, with an operations centre in Calgary and 24/7 assistance in many languages.
- Scale: more than 330,000 insured members and about 2,000 corporate clients worldwide.
- Government work: since July 2023, MSH handles out-of-country travel assistance for the federal Public Service Health Care Plan.
What MSH does for Super Visa families
- Administers MSH Discover Canada: sells and issues the policy, sets up monthly payments, processes refunds.
- Answers the emergency line for Discover Canada, Secure Travel (RIMI) and 2 Visit Canada through Intrepid 24/7.
- Finds care and arranges direct billing with hospitals where possible, so families don't pay large bills up front.
- Assesses and pays claims under each plan's policy wording, on behalf of the underwriter.
MSH International (Canada) Ltd. is an administrator. The insurer that carries the risk is the underwriter named on the policy: certain underwriters at Lloyd's for both Discover Canada and RIMI.

Which MSH-serviced plan fits your parent?
Three questions. A shortlist, not an approval: the medical questions on the application decide.
How to make a claim with MSH
The same steps apply to Discover Canada, RIMI and 2 Visit Canada. Use the checklist to see which documents to gather.
- Call before treatment, or as soon as you can. 1-800-203-8508 (Canada and US) or collect +1-416-646-3107. For a hospital admission, call within 24 hours.
- Give the policy number and the visitor's name, date of birth and where they are being treated.
- Ask about direct billing. The team can often pay the hospital directly.
- Keep everything: itemized bills, receipts, prescriptions and medical reports.
- Submit the claim form with the documents to the claims office named in the policy, within the policy's time limit.
- Answer requests quickly. MSH may ask for medical records from the home country to check pre-existing conditions.
Important: under Discover Canada, not calling assistance without a reasonable cause can mean paying 20% of the claim yourself.

MSH International Super Visa insurance: FAQ
What is MSH International?
MSH International is an international health insurance and assistance company, part of the Paris-based Diot-Siaci group, founded in 1974. Its Americas head office is in Toronto.
In Canada it administers the Discover Canada visitor plan and, through its Intrepid 24/7 assistance team, handles emergency assistance and claims for other visitor plans, including Secure Travel (RIMI) and 2 Visit Canada.
Does MSH sell Super Visa insurance?
Yes. MSH Discover Canada is a Super Visa-ready plan for ages 15 days to 89 with coverage up to $1,000,000. Choose $100,000 or more for 365 days.
You can buy it online through the link on this page, or compare it with RIMI, 2 Visit Canada and other insurers in the live quote.
Does IRCC accept MSH Discover Canada for a Super Visa?
IRCC requires a policy from a Canadian insurance company or an approved foreign insurer, valid one year from entry, with at least $100,000 of emergency coverage. Discover Canada is underwritten by Lloyd's underwriters, which are licensed to insure in Canada.
As with any plan, send IRCC the issued confirmation of coverage, not a quote, and make sure it shows the visitor's name, the dates and the coverage amount.
How do I make an MSH claim?
Call the assistance number on the policy (1-800-203-8508 in Canada and the US, or collect +1-416-646-3107) before treatment or as soon as possible, and within 24 hours of a hospital admission.
Then send the claim form with itemized bills, receipts and medical reports. MSH can often pay the hospital directly if it is called first. The policy wording sets the deadline for submitting the claim.
Can MSH pay the hospital directly?
Often, yes. When you call the assistance line before or during treatment, the team can arrange direct billing with the hospital where possible, so the family doesn't pay large bills up front.
If you pay yourself, keep the original itemized receipts and submit them for reimbursement.
What happens if I don't call MSH first?
Under Discover Canada's wording, failing to notify assistance without reasonable cause can leave you paying 20% of the claim. Other plans have similar rules.
Save the number in the visitor's phone and wallet, and call even if the visitor is already at the hospital.
Which MSH-serviced plan is best for my parents?
For most families, compare all three. RIMI and 2 Visit Canada cover stable conditions up to age 84 and offer monthly payments; Discover Canada has a short 5-day wait after arrival from age 71 and extras like prescriptions up to $2,000.
Discover Canada stops pre-existing cover at 81, so for parents 81 to 84 with conditions, RIMI or 2 Visit Canada Plan 2 is usually the better fit.
Can I get a refund if the Super Visa is refused?
All three plans refund the premium if the Super Visa is refused and you send the refusal letter before the policy starts, subject to each plan's fees.
RIMI and 2 Visit Canada refund the $120 monthly setup fee in that case. See each plan guide for its cancellation fee and cooling-off period.
