Who is eligible?

  • Over 14 days old and under 86 years old
  • Not advised against travel by a physician
  • No surgically untreated aneurysm
  • No listed serious cancer, dialysis, transplant, heart-failure or terminal-illness disqualification
  • Not residing in a care facility
  • No assistance required with daily activities, except the stated child exception
  • No disqualifying recent oral-steroid or home-oxygen use

Pre-existing conditions and medical history

  • Pre-existing conditions generally require 180 days of stability.
  • Applicants age 70–79 are subject to additional heart, brain and lung restrictions.
  • At age 80 or older, pre-existing conditions occurring during the preceding 180 days are excluded.
  • Treatment during a temporary home-country return can exclude related claims after returning to Canada.
Medical-history reminder: A new symptom, diagnosis, medication change, treatment change, hospitalization, referral or pending investigation can affect eligibility or stability.

What medical issues affect eligibility?

The application considers listed cancers, aneurysm, dialysis, transplant, heart failure, terminal illness, care-facility residence, daily-living assistance, oral steroids and home oxygen.

Waiting period and stability guidance

  • A 24-hour waiting period applies to injury when coverage starts after departure.
  • A 48-hour sickness waiting period applies when coverage starts within 30 days after departure.
  • A seven-day sickness waiting period applies when coverage starts more than 30 days after departure.
  • The waiting period may be waived for qualifying continuous Travelance coverage.

Monthly-payment information

  • The monthly-payment option has a CAD $100 non-refundable billing fee.
  • The issued billing schedule and payment agreement govern.
  • Missed payments can affect coverage.
Payment reminder: The issued payment agreement, deposit, collection schedule and cancellation provisions govern.

Claims and emergency assistance

  • Contact emergency assistance before hospital admission or within 24 hours after a life- or organ-threatening emergency.
  • Submit the claim online or using the required claim form.
  • Provide original receipts and the attending physician’s diagnosis.
  • Submit proof within the policy deadlines.
Important: Failure to provide required assistance notification may reduce eligible expenses by 20%.

Refunds and administration fees

  • A 10-day right to examine may allow a full refund before coverage starts.
  • No fee generally applies for visa denial or ineligibility before the start date.
  • A CAD $250 fee may apply to certain cancellations before departure.
  • A CAD $50 fee may apply after an early return or government-plan eligibility.
  • A CAD $250 file-handling fee may apply when a submitted claim is withdrawn.
